Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABMP)

What it is

Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring measures your blood pressure over a 24-hour period while you go about normal daily activities. A cuff connected to a small recorder automatically inflates at set intervals during the day and night.

Why it’s recommended

ABPM provides a more accurate assessment of blood pressure than a single clinic reading. It helps identify patterns such as white-coat or masked hypertension and assists in guiding diagnosis and treatment decisions.

What to expect

The device is fitted in the clinic and worn for 24 hours, during which most usual activities can be continued. Showering and strenuous exercise should be avoided. After the monitoring period, the results are reviewed by your cardiologist to inform ongoing care.
